first of all…

👋🏾 hello i’m reni aka the mischievous and certified hot clown, simply the jest.

i live and love and laugh in brighton, and i’m 5ft6 if you even care.

*holding subtitles to a famously mostly acoustic song (**simply_the_jest/insta**)*

so i think this started, like many good and questionable ideas do, in the slow crawl out of winter.

soft mud and wet grass embedding under your fingernails as you claw your way out of your den, hauling your duvet-cocooned body into a lethargically grey and cloudy day.

now you’re waiting…

waiting for a sign that the world still has a little zing to it.

a lil’ jwah da veev or “juh nay say kwah”, as the french say.

the big, beautiful sun almost audibly cracks (sounds like a block of fridge-cold chocolate, wedged between your palms to split and share) through the thick blanket of clouds. and then suddenly there it is:

a completely overwhelming urge to create, to make something, to be seen, to be ridiculous in public, for joy.

i love performing.

(i used to hate it, a story for another time.)

let me take this outlandish idea and be a bit feral on a stage.

it’s messy. it’s risky.

it’s just a bit o’ a laugh, innit.

i realised that i wanted to make a space where other people can get a little silly with it.

squeeze joy out of this lemon of a world.

caveat: i love lemons, this is a zero-lemon-hate zone.

BRIGHTON GIGGLES is my shot at making that space real.

occasions when someone's silly idea becomes a silly moment experienced by many.
